Live Event, Newark New Jersey
The State of the People National Tour is more than just a series of events—it's a nationwide call to action aimed at rallying, restoring, and reimagining what's possible for Black communities across the U.S.
On Tuesday, May 13, the tour makes its next stop at Newark Symphony Hall. This event will feature a full day of activities designed to empower attendees with knowledge and tools for emergency preparedness. One of the key sessions will be Moderated by Environmental activist Kim Gaddy and feature Amen Shepsu Adio, Tasheea Nicholson & Chloe Desir who will conduct a powerful workshop focusing on environmental justice and establishing a National Black Preparedness Baseline—a standard of preparedness that every Black household should adopt immediately.
Black communities have historically been more vulnerable to disasters and emergencies. With recent cuts to critical services, such as those from FEMA, the need for self-reliance and preparedness has become even more urgent. This tour addresses these challenges head-on, providing actionable strategies and resources to help communities protect themselves and thrive.
The workshop will feature a broad discussion about how environmental justice and community preparedness are intertied.
